Located near Lake Erie in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, “The Farm” is 68.5 acres of land purchased by the Walker family in 2008. With plans to eventually build a house and move there, the family is currently working with local nature conservation organizations to restore the once-logged land to a more natural state.
The property owned by the Nature Conservancy of Canada known as Clear Creek forest is located less than 2km downstream from the farm which is also on Clear Creek. Currently about 48 acres are woodlot with an additional creek branching into Clear Creek within the property. There are a number of gullies on the property. There are several seasonal ephemeral ponds on the farm, two of which have button bush growing in the center of them. Currently we are working with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority and Stewardship Kent to re-tree a portion of the open field area. Chatham-Kents forest cover is less than 2% .
